11.c) Second Reading of Proposed Ordinance 2022-06 Amending, Title 10 of the Municipal Code of the Town of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, by Adding Chapter 2 Entitled "Short-Term Rentals"
Town Council members has alluded to being privy to data showing the correlation between the increase in the number of short term rentals and the increase in nuisance complaints from town residents affected by these short term rentals. Will council publish this information for review to justify the need for the proposed short-term rental ordinance?
The short-term ordinance will create additional costs for the town and for owners of short-term rentals. These costs include the staff and third-party time and materials to develop the proposed ordinance already sunk into the effort, and ongoing costs to implement the proposed ordinance. The expectation is that the correlation of short-term rental and nuisance complaints will clearly justify the need for the proposed short-term ordinance.
